For Maurice and his wife Jean, East Lancashire Hospice has been a lifeline of support and care for the past three years.

Jean, who has been diagnosed with Syringomyelia, a rare neurological disorder, COPD and Breast Cancer, and has been receiving support from the Hospice at Home team at East Lancashire Hospice.

“If I need to go out for some shopping or if I have a hospital appointment, I just ring the Hospice at Home team, and someone will come and stay with Jean while I go out. I don’t like leaving Jean on her own, it gives me comfort knowing that she’s ok while I’m out. Jean looks forward to their visits, she likes chatting to the nurses, and they make her feel relaxed and comfortable.” shared Maurice.

Maurice’s connection to East Lancashire Hospice started well before using the Hospice services.

“I first came into contact with East Lancashire Hospice over 40 years ago. I was one of the Bricklayers who helped to build the Hospice building on Park Lee Road. I built most of the inside walls and some of the outside walls too; I worked on the building from the very beginning, and it’s still there now!” shared Maurice.

Jean and Maurice never imagined they would one day need the Hospice’s support. But for many families across East Lancashire, the Hospice can make a life-changing difference, often when it’s least expected.
